You Are 3 Feet From Gold!

Here a short story for you......

An uncle of R. U. Darby was caught by the gold fever in the gold-rush days, and went west to DIG AND GROW RICH. He had never heard that more gold has been mined from the brains of men than has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite.

After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, told his relatives and a few neighbors of the “strike.” They got together money for the needed machinery, had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.

The first car of ore was mined, and shipped to a smelter. The returns proved they had one of the richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big killing in profits.

Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and Uncle! Then something happened! The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there! They drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again— all to no avail.

Finally, they decided to QUIT.

They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home. Some “junk” men are dumb, but not this one! He called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating. The engineer advised that the project had failed, because the owners were not familiar with “fault lines.” His calculations showed that the vein would be found just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling! That is exactly where it was found!

The “Junk” man took millions of dollars in ore from the mine!!

For us there is nothing worse as coaches to see someone just give up on the journey to physique transformation. We actually used to take it personal in the early days as coaches. We would see clients do everything we told them to do to a tee. Get good results then something happens in their life than bang, the journey to physique transformation comes to an end right there and then.

You may often hear us say time and time again, if only they would of kept on keeping on, the results would come in the end. I mean at the end of the day we are dealing the law of physics here. If someone is following their own personal exercise and nutrition plan to the letter then by the law of physics results have to come it time. We exercise every day. We eat healthy and clean only to see a miserly two pounds dropped. That's when the cry of "this fitness stuff is a bunch of crap. I am going back to how things used to be." Have those people ever stopped and wondered about what if? What would of happened if I would kept on going? Where would I be?

What is very common is that some people who throw in the towel decides to give it another go a few months later and jumps back in the saddle only to find he or she has to build back the momentum again and start over. It is super tough to get a plan off the ground in the begin. In fact I once heard “It is the start that stops most people.” That is where all the effort has to take place. I hope you see our point here. If that person would of just kept on keeping on they would of hit their ideal altitude and then they strike gold and the pounds start moving and results start to come. The same theory is true for building muscle as well you know!

Let us add another point here which is very casual. If someone has consistently gained weight and that same person decides to get in shape but decides to stop due to only a few pounds lost in the first month or two. What you have to ask yourself here is, how long did it take me to gain this weight in the first place? 6 months, a year or 5 years? (I bet It didn’t happen over night) And how long is it going to take to get to my ideal weight? Weight gain also takes time and weight loss takes time. If you are discouraged with seeing only small progress and you feel defeated, ask yourself these other questions?

Do you feel better after exercising?

Do you have more energy?

Are you sleeping better?

Are you stronger?

Can you move better?

Often most people in our experience always say yes to the above questions which for me as a coach is a big deal. People feeling better after they workout. People having more energy during the during the day. People sleeping better. People moving better and feeling stronger is so awesome. Wouldn’t you wish the people you love and care about to feel this way too? But for most people it does not matter because the darn scale didn’t move or they only lost a few pounds. So they quit 3 feet gold!

This is wroth thinking about.

In life we become professional quitters. We quit on jobs, we quit relationships, we quit saving money, we quit on ourselves. Health and fitness is something you can not quit on. We tell our clients that if you start this journey make sure you see it through to end. Health and fitness is an on going process and you should never stop. Health and fitness does not a deadline! Why because it is a way of life. It is a life style. If you feel like giving up, read this blog over and over again and remember WHY you started in the beginning.

Much love,

Troy & Jasmine :)
